Top-flight league champions Mighty Wanderers will face their arch-rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on April 18 in the 2026 Charity Shield to curtain-raise the 2026/27 football season.

Football Association of Malawi operations director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed that the two domestic football powerhouses will set the ball rolling for the new season.

Wanderers taking on Bullets in the just-ended season.

“Traditionally, champions of the flagship league face winners of the Castel Challenge Cup, which is the biggest national cup; hence, Wanderers will face Bullets,” he said.

Since the Charity Shield was introduced in 2016, it has been dominated by Bullets, having won it six consecutive times. They only missed last year’s edition which was won by Silver Strikers after beating Wanderers 5-3 on post-match penalties following a two-all draw in regulation time.

Meanwhile, FAM has said the top-tier FDH Bank Premiership, will kick off on April 25 2026 with all other competitions scheduled to follow thereafter in accordance with the approved competition calendar.

In a statement, FAM said the 2026/27 season will conclude on March 21 2027.

“This schedule forms part of FAM’s ongoing calendar transition project, aimed at shifting the domestic football cycle from the traditional March–December format to the new August–May cycle, aligning with international best practice,” reads the statement.

“The full competition calendar will be published in due course.”
